Please remember that the IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.
There is now a virus being sent via email which refers to an ‘IRS payment’ or an “IRS refund” with a Word document attached (.doc file). One example is:

If you believe you are at risk of identity theft due to lost or stolen personal information, you should contact the IRS Identity Protection Specialized Unit at 800-908-4490 immediately so the agency can take action to secure your tax account.
